Opis taksona

Strižibube naseljavaju sve oblasti sveta, ali najbrojnije su u tropskim predelima. Poznato je preko 27.000 vrsta, a u Evropi živi oko 600. Veličina tela im varira od nekoliko milimetara pa sve do nekoliko centimetara. Od ostalih tvrdokrilaca se razlikuju po izduženom telu i dugim antenama, koje su kod nekih vrsta duže od tela. Ako su uznemirene, većina strižibuba proizvodi karakterističan zvuk (strižu). Njihove larve nemaju noge, a glava im je jako krupna sa snažnim usnim aparatom za grickanje. Razvijaju se u drvetu ili na zeljastim biljkama, pa su neke od njih opasne štetočine. Odrasli žive na lišću i cveću biljaka, a hrane se polenom ili biljnim sokom.
